Enhanced External Counterpulsation(EECP)
EECP is a simple, safe, non-invasive treatment that produces a profound array
of benefits. It involves the application of pressure to the body through the use
of a special machine. The therapy is typically painless and well tolerated. The
primary effect of EECP is to reduce the workload of the heart and to increase
the efficiency of the heart’s output. The second effect is to stimulate
the growth of new blood vessels, thereby helping to produce a “natural by-pass”.
In healthy people, the muscular and lymph systems naturally assist in circulation.
When illness or injury is present, this assistance becomes compromised. This results
in decreased circulation, which hinders the delivery of oxygen and nutrients and
allows toxins and waste products to build up in the tissues. By intervening with
external compression, we are able to mimic the natural process of circulation,
reversing the poor blood flow.
Conditions treated include angina, edema, post-operative rehabilitation, injuries,
cardiovascular diseases, enhanced delivery of medications (excellent when used
with any IV therapy), diseases of the nerves and/or muscles, diabetic damage to
the vascular system, stroke, slow healing wounds, heart failure, blockage of the
arteries, and any condition in which improved circulation is needed.
The typical program for angina is a one hour session each weekday for a total
of 35 treatments. Other conditions might require a different program, and this
would be determined on an individual basis.
